Lincoln Park UBF (1987-present)
University Bible Fellowship is an international, evangelical student organization dedicated to the task of campus evangelism. Our main work is helping students to study the Bible and to live according to its teachings.
We believe that God created the heavens and the earth. We believe that he is the Sovereign Ruler of all things, and that the Sovereign God reveals himself, especially in his redemptive work and in his final judgment.
We believe that the Bible is inspired by God; that it is the truth; that it is the final authority in faith and practice.
We believe that since the fall of Adam, all people have been under the bondage and power of sin and are deserving of the judgment and wrath of God.
We believe that Jesus Christ, who is God and man, through his atoning, sacrificial death on the cross for our sins and his resurrection, is the only way of salvation; he alone saves us from sin and judgment and purifies us from the contamination of the world caused by sin.
We believe that Jesus Christ rose from the dead, ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father.
We believe that regeneration is by the work of the Holy Spirit, and that it is necessary if one is to enter the kingdom of God. We believe that God sent his Holy Spirit to empower his church to be witnesses to the ends of the earth.
We believe that we are made righteous by grace alone, through faith alone.
We believe that the Holy Spirit works in the heart of every believer to lead him/her.
We believe that the church is the body of Christ and that all Christians are members of it.
We believe that Jesus will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead.

UBF graduates: We are a church whose senior members were originally led to Christ during their college days through a UBF ministry somewhere around the world, most often in South Korea, where UBF is largest. Because their lives were so enriched and blessed through the ministry of UBF, they, in turn, committed their lives to give back to college student ministry through prayer, financial and spiritual support, and mentoring. This involves both cross-cultural and cross-generational ministry.
Over the past 20 years in Lincoln Park, ministering to each student has been a real investment of time, energy and resources. But our vision has been to help students on a personal basis, regardless of the cost, respecting their incalculable worth and the dignity of their lives, and seeing their great potential to be future leaders wherever they go. It has been a privilege to participate in this labor of love for college students and to see God working so graciously in their lives.
One of our core values is student academic excellence. We pray for them to grow not only in their personal faith, but also as whole persons who can be good examples to their fellow students, and later on in life in any endeavor they choose, through finding the meaning of their studies and of academic achievement.
Pastor Mark Vucekovich has led the Lincoln Park UBF church since its inception. He is a graduate of Northwestern University (CAS '83) and received pastoral training through University Bible Fellowship after college graduation, first as an intern, then as an assistant pastor at 6558 N. Artesian Ave. in Chicago. He speaks on Sundays, leads Bible studies, gives counseling, conducts baptisms, communion, weddings and funerals, and is responsible for the church property. He is accountable to the local church elders, attends Chicago-area staff meetings and reports regularly on the ministry.
Pastor Mark began visiting the DePaul campus in 1987. In 1992, after the growth of student ministry, Dr. John and Deborah Lee, church elders, moved to the Lincoln Park neighborhood to co-work with Pastor Mark. They purchased a two flat home at 2442 N. Sheffield Ave. and lived on the second floor, offering the first floor and basement for church use. Pastor Mark's family moved into the back of the first floor, and he began leading worship services in the living/dining room of the first floor in September 1992. In 1999, Dr. John Lee's family moved to a new location, and Pastor Mark's family moved to the second floor of 2442 N. Sheffield. In 2002, after the growth of the ministry, the first floor living quarters were removed and the worship room expanded to the entire first floor. In 2005 Pastor Mark's family moved to a nearby condominium on campus, and the second floor is now used to house students in the ministry.
Currently, students invite their classmates and friends. Also, graduates and adults extend invitations to students in public areas nearby the campus. They invite new students especially to the student-run weekly student meeting currently held at the church. We tell students we are a local, non-denominational church not officially affiliated with DePaul University, but which is open to its students. We do not believe in or practice hazing in any form.
To date, our Lincoln Park UBF church is run by six core families. The church was established and is maintained by these families, not by any outside sources. The church building at 2442 N. Sheffield Ave. was purchased exclusively through their generous offerings, and from its beginning in 1992 has always been self-supporting and self-governing. All six families live within walking distance of the DePaul Lincoln Park campus; four of them are Lincoln Park homeowners. Their children attend the local schools. We are committed to serving both the students and the community.
In addition to DePaul, Lincoln Park and Lane Tech High School students, Columbia College, Harold Washington City College and Harrington School of Design students also attend the Lincoln Park UBF church. Average weekly church attendance during the past academic year was 35.
